Public Health Emergency Preparedness

Public Health promotes the welfare of the entire population and strives to support the local community as it prepares for, responds to, and recovers from threats and emergencies. The Public Health Emergency Preparedness (PHEP), launched in 2002 by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), is critical to local efforts by health departments to build and strengthen their capabilities to effectively respond to a range of public health threats, including infectious diseases, natural disasters, and biological, chemical, nuclear, and radiological events. Funding provided by PHEP, enables local Public Health Preparedness (PHP) programs to build and sustain health and resilient communities. Northern Nevada Public Health (NNPH) actively engages with a wide variety of community partners and first responders to develop and provide training, education, and exercise opportunities to focus on and enhance local preparedness.
